Betty Trinh: We stumbled on this place accidentally like Alice in the Wonderland. We went through an inconspicuous door from our hotel, that looked like any other back office door and emerged in a totally new fantastical world. There is nothing velvet or speakeasy about this place. It's a popular club. It's an elaborately decorated cavern that is moody and edgy and so cool. The beautiful stonework is a nod to the restaurant's storied history dating back to the 1700s. The huge restaurant space is striking and not the small back room of a hotel that I was expecting. Club Velvet is actually part of the Auberge St. Gabriel restaurant and reservations are required to get in. Our hotel did not tell us that. But the accommodating staff was nice enough to get us in even if we didn't have reservations. The music was good and the sound system was top notch. The drinks were good.

Corey Kasperski: I don't post reviews often but this shop is worthy of the praise!I was attempting to repair my DT880 Pro headset, they were very helpful in attempting a repair but after some parts I ordered were dead on arrival I decided to cut my losses.I was going to order some new ones online when I realized I was standing in a audio shop! I'm so used to just ordering stuff online I had forgotten that customer service is not dead and that for something like purchasing headphones it is probably best suited to be done in person!Big shout out to Jack for all of his help in trying to repair my old set and helping me pick out some new ones. They were not pushy at all in trying to make a sale and were very informative and honest about the products shown. Everyone's ears are different and we don't all hear things to same, he encouraged me to try out some products myself and decide whether I liked them or not. Reinforcing even more the idea that some products are best purchased in person so you can actually experience the product before you buy it! What I think sounds good someone else might hate and you can't tell unless you try them first.I ended up getting a new pair of Focal Elegia which I'm very happy with. It ended up being slightly outside my initial price range but with the sale price offered I felt it was worth the bit extra. Jack showed me quite a few sets that were within the same cost range as my old DT880 Pros before going outside that range and didn't just push the most expensive thing they had on me right out of the gate.Heck online shopping and do yourself a favour when it comes to buying certain products and take the time to go in person! You'll likely get a better deal overall and end up with a purchase that is better suited to your wants and needs.

The person who served me gave excellent advice and immediately directed me to the helmets that best suited what I liked. We talked for a good hour and I left with a great helmet at an excellent price and with lots of good advice on my future installation. Paulo Unia: As an audio beginner, I had a fantastic experience at Layton. I casually showed up during an afternoon and was kindly welcomed by Frank. I asked him a few questions about planar headphones and inquired about trying some headphones. As I learnt, they prefer if customers call in advance and make an appointment, but Frank had the time, so we discussed a bit, picked two headphones and a USB-C DAC, and went to one of the listening rooms. Frank gave me loads of information, never pressuring me to buy. We got a 2nd DAC for me to try after I had decided that the headphones I wanted were the Audeze LCD2-C. After some back & forth, I chose a DAC, asked Frank for a few other accessories and made my first big audio purchase. When getting Frank's advice, I felt like I was talking to a friend's uncle who had known me for 10 years, given the care he took to share his knowledge. After I had chosen the headphones, we even had a great conversation about espresso machines and mechanical watches before I left the store.After spending some time with the new headphones and DAC at home, I realized I had chosen the right headphones but the wrong DAC! So the next day, I returned to the store, where Frank exchanged the one I originally bought for the one I wanted.Thanks to Frank and the whole crew at Layton Audio for making me feel welcome as a beginner and introducing me to the world of hi-fi, as it can often be intimidating to step into a new hobby where technical words and acronyms are thrown around like everyone was born knowing them.

jojo meta: One of the best evenings I've had. Yes, entry is $15 but the place is clean and you can use a real toilet for example compared to other places.
