David-Philip Gladstone: McGill student and staff dentistry is for the students to practice on people. It's very strictly run and supervised dental work by actual dentists themselves and the students practice on you. It may take two or three or four times longer as their practicing plus each step they take, they often call over a dentist to consult with both their dental observations and examination and their dental work. Hence it takes a lot longer. But the summer clinic is free if you're at all accepted into the program. As a patient. I was referred by my own dentist or one of them... And I was very lucky to get in as they had a drop out and the secretary or administrator called me and told me about the program. I didn't even know about it. I knew about the school semester program run in the same place where you actually pay for a dental services, but you pay about half of the normal dental schedule pricing. My root canal guy says you pay for less than half. But once again you have to qualify to get in and fill out an application form. And I'm sure there's many people filling out application forms. I got very lucky to have a senior student and her name was Fred and she was absolutely excellent and I'd love to have her as my main dentist when she graduates. But I doubt she's going to stick around Montreal because you could do a lot better financially elsewhere..It's a very clean place and very modern and run exceptionally well and I was very impressed. I checked out a couple of other places that were attached to hospitals and one where my root canal guy used to teach at the Montreal general hospital. I think it's the third floor these days for their dental and the Montreal's Queen. Elizabeth health center used to have sort of a dental practice but they sold it to private concerns as a dental office retail, and I checked out the JGH and I was very disappointed with their very old building and their crowded situation and their negative aggressivity and they're stressed out behaviors. Behaviors plus a waiting room was crushed together with people and there wasn't even enough room for somebody in a wheelchair to get by. So this McGill student center of dentistry is exquisitively clean, cut, very professional high-end and really up to date. At least as up to date as general dentistry's currently practiced by everybody. I think all medical practice techniques and services are way behind the actual findings and abilities and treatments that exist today, but are seldom practice because their new, their modern and all medicine practiced is actually old school and historically based..And dentists make a small fortune even with an average practice. So a lot of people want to go into dentistry..The likelihood of getting into the McGill student dental center for treatment is very low. I'm sure tons of people apply and they only have room for a few of their patients from the public to practice on..And a big shout out to Fred who did a great job. She was wonderful!
